Looking for help at The Hedge School

UPDATE ON 3 JANUARY: THIS POSITION HAS NOW BEEN FILLED. THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR INTEREST!

We’re delighted to say that our Patreon funding has reached a level of around US$200 per month, which means that we will now be able to begin fulfilling some of our ambitions for making it an authoritative source for people looking for accurate information about Celtic myths and folklore, and the other native traditions of these islands – as well as for those looking for inspiration for authentic, rooted, grounded ways of being in these challenging days.

We would like to offer someone who has a passion for what we’re doing the opportunity to work with us to develop our resources, and to look for contributors and collaborators who, like us, are passionate about growing a new folk culture.

If you are interested in working with us, and are prepared to commit to a minimum of three hours a week, we can offer you, to begin with, a small monthly retainer of 100 euros per month (at current exchange rates, around £89). If we work well together, and if our Patreon funding grows, we will in time be able to increase this. You will also have free access to any of our distance learning courses (with the exception of ‘The Voices of the Wells’ interactive course). But you need to have commitment, enthusiasm, and a few skills. Here are some details about the kind of person we are looking for; if you’re interested in working with us, please email us at info[at]thehedgeschool[dot]org, telling us something about yourself, your skills, and why you’d like to work with us here at The Hedge School.

  • You don’t need to be physically close to The Hedge School, but given that we’re working primarily with the traditions of Ireland and the British Isles, you do need to be based in Ireland or the UK.
  • You’ll need to have access to a reliable internet connection, and a computer that you can comfortably and reliably work on.
  • You need to be comfortable working independently at a distance, and checking in with me regularly via email, and Skype or Facetime.
  • You need to be able to use WordPress blogs, and if you’re any good at working with WordPress.org sites that would be even better. (NB not for website building, but for uploading blog posts and updating web pages.)
  • You don’t need to have an academic qualification, but you need to understand something about myth and folk traditions, and to be prepared to learn more.
  • It’s important to be willing to accept that we’re very focused on sound, authoritative and up-to-date information and resources. You need to be able to discern (or to be prepared to learn to discern) the difference between the good, the bad and the ugly information/resources out there on the worldwide web.
  • We’re also looking for help with our Facebook page, so you’ll need to be prepared to use the platform, and possibly other social media.
  • As for personal qualities – we’re looking for flexibility, an open mind, and good written communication skills. As well as enthusiasm and a few good ideas!

We look forward to hearing from you!

Sharon
